OVER 300 senior citizens participated in the 73 Times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at the Sufri Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Perpindahan Berakas yesterday afternoon.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 73rd birthday celebration this year.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour.
The ceremony began with a mass Asar prayer led by Sufri Bolkiah Mosque Imam Morni bin Haji Nayan followed by the mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour.
Chairman of the 73 Times Khatam Al-Quran Senior Citizen Management Plan Commitee Haji Abdul Hakim bin Haji Mohd Yassin in his remarks highlighted that the objective of the initiative was to express appreciation, gratitude and love to His Majesty and to encourage the citizens to read Al-Quran.
The ceremony was divided into 21 female Halaqah and six male Halaqah with the monitoring and Tasmik sessions assisted by the head of the Halaqah.
The ceremony ended with the recitation of Doa Selamat and Doa Peliharakan Sultan by the Sufri Bolkiah Mosque Imam.
