FLAG hoisting ceremonies were held across educational institutions yesterday as the nation gears up to mark the 35th National Day celebration.
At Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the flag hoisting was held in front of the Chancellor Hall.
The ceremony began with the march-past by flag-bearing UBD Army Cadet Platoon members and the recitation of Doa.
Vice-Chancellor of UBD cum guest of honour Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz presented the national flag to UBD Army Cadet Platoon members for the flag-hoisting event.
The flag-hoisting was accompanied by the national anthem and patriotic song ‘Brunei Bumi Bertuah’ led by the UBD Student Representative Council.
The ceremony is an annual event organised by the Student Affairs Section of UBD, to promote patriotism and love for the country among students.
It is also to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations for the country to achieve the Brunei Vision 2035, in line with the theme of this year’s National Day ‘Menjayakan Wawasan Negara’.
UBD principal officers, staff and students were also present.
Meanwhile, the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) held a flag hoisting ceremony in front of its Administration Building.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Asma ‘ul-Husna and Surah Al-Fatihah led by Head of Exco Religion and Takmir Surau 2018/2019 Afifi Abdul Wafi bin Dr Haji Adanan.
Ra’es of KUPU SB cum guest of honour Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar presented the national flag. The hoisting was accompanied by the national anthem and proclamations of Allahu Akbar.
It continued with the recitation of ‘Doa Peliharakan Sultan’ led by Assistant I Exco Religion and Takmir Surau 2018/2019 Muhammad Hadi Wa’ie bin Mohammad.
The ceremony also saw the march-past by flag bearers, Student Representative Council, Girl Guides, Scout, Fire and Rescue cadets, Security Control of KUPU SB, Army Cadets and Year 1 students of KUPU SB.
The ceremony, an annual event, was organised by Uniform Exco and Logistic, Student Representative Council, Student Association 2018/2019.
It aimed to enliven the National Day celebration and promote patriotism and love towards the country and strengthen the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy among the students and staff.
At Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), the flag-hoisting was held at its campus.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB cum guest of honour Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Md Taib attended the event alongside principal officers, lecturers, staff and students.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Ustaz Md Fazalley bin Haji Hidup, followed by the handing over of the national flag by the guest of honour to the representative of the UTB Army Cadet 92126 SJN KT Haji Abdul Wa’ie bin Haji Tamin.
The flag was hoisted by members of the UTB Army Cadet, accompanied by the singing of the national anthem.
