YANG Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah played for International School Brunei (ISB) in the Panaga School Football Tournament at the Panaga Club football field yesterday.
Over 500 students from eight schools participated in the annual tournament, spread out across 65 teams. The participating schools were Panaga School, Panaga Primary School, Jerudong International School (JIS), International School Brunei (ISB BSB), International School Brunei Kuala Belait (ISB KB), St John’s School, Hornbill School, and Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Mohd Yusof Primary School.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah were welcomed by Commercial Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Chairperson of the Panaga School Board Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib. Also present were BSP Finance Director Rob Van Velden.
The tournament was split into 11 categories – Under-7 mixed, Under-8 mixed, Under-9 mixed, Under-10 boys, Under-10 girls, Under-11 boys, Under-11 girls, Under-12 boys, Under-12 girls, Under-13 boys, and Under-13 girls.
Playing for ISB ‘A’, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim competed in the Under-12 boys category. ISB ‘A’ emerged champion of the category after defeating JIS ‘A’ 2-0 in the final.
JIS ‘A’ missed out on another title after they were defeated by Panaga Thunder 2-0 in the Under-7 mixed category.
In the Under-8 mixed category, Panaga Hurricanes beat Hornbill ‘A’ 4-2 to clinch the title.
Panaga Titans edged out Hornbill ‘A’ 1-0 to win the Under-9 mixed category.
Rounding up, Hornbill ‘A’ beat JIS ‘A’ 2-0 in the Under-10 boys category; Hornbill ‘A’ cruised to an easy 3-1 against JIS ‘A’ in the Under-10 Girls category; JIS ‘A’ won against Hornbill ‘A’ 2-1 in the Under-11 Boys category; Hornbill ‘A’ defeated Hornbill ‘B’ to win the Under-11 girls category; JIS edged ISB 2-1 in the Under-12 girls; ISB won against Panaga Cyclone 4-2 in the Under-13 boys category; and ISB beat JIS in the Under-13 girls category.
Physical Education teacher at Panaga School Nathan Edwards said, “We invited schools to compete, have fun and keep healthy.”
He thanked parents and guardians for their support throughout the tournament.
“We have parents and guardians who volunteered in coaching and refereeing in the games. We are grateful as it would not have been possible without their support and efforts,” he said.
Panaga School Principal Cindy Bin Tahal expressed her gratitude to BSP for sponsoring the tournament’s medals and trophies.
