THE Royal Institution Singapore unveiled its new logo at the 14th Global Congress and Conferment ceremony held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday.

Organised by the Royal Institution Singapore and Royal Institution Philippines in cooperation with Pakar Tenaga Bersatu and themed ‘Global Leadership and Its Impact on Sustainable Development’, the event is meant to be a platform for the participants to share knowledge and learn about sustainable development from a global leadership context.

“It is our aspiration to put leadership, knowledge, global affiliation network and innovation towards our sustainable development goals,” Legislative Council member and President of the Institution of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA) Brunei Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman said in her opening remarks at the ceremony.

“The theme is very comprehensive as it touches upon many qualities of leadership that we can all pursue globally, but in hindsight it speaks of the responsibilities of leaders to steer their companies or economies in all aspects in a manner that brings about sustainable development.”

The PUJA Brunei President also noted that a strong network among global leaders is essential to achieving sustainable development globally.

“Through various platforms such as today’s event, we aim to make ideas, discoveries and innovations accessible to the global leadership community to enable them to take on the world’s most urgent issues and connect with individuals and bodies who share the same goals,” she said.

With regard to Brunei, Yang Berhormat Siti Rozaimeriyanty encouraged the country’s leaders to work together with each other through private and public partnerships to ensure the smooth implementation of initiatives made to realise the goals of Brunei Vision 2035.

Innovative leadership and management, she added, “will be fundamental for organisations in all sectors to incorporate these sustainable development goals into their strategic plans and operational activities in their efforts to achieve their sustainable development aspirations”.

Chancellor of the Royal Institution Singapore and Royal Institution Philippines FDr Dr Professor Samuel M Salvador said that global leadership “requires the ability to persuade, harmonise, inspire and influence people to seek and attain the common vision, mission and goals enthusiastically for sustainable development”.

He added that “it is the human factor that binds a group together and motivates it towards the realisation of its ultimate goal”.
