AFTER a month of flying proudly above the skies of Bandar Seri Begawan, the large national flag of Brunei Darussalam was lowered in a ceremony held yesterday at the open podium of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.
The flag-lowering ceremony, signalling the end of the 70th birthday celebrations for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, was attended by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Haji Ahmad bin Pengiran Mohd Yusof, the Senior Assistant Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara, who is also a member of the Executive National Committee for His Majesty’s 70th birthday celebrations.
Also present were members of the flag-lowering committee and uniformed personnel from various government organisations.
The ceremony commenced with a reading of Al-Fatihah, followed by 70 uniformed personnel from the Prisons Department and the Department of Fire and Rescue entering the arena.
This was then followed by personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy making their entrance, accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Force band.
The flag was lowered from the mast, then folded and handed over to Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Haji Ahmad.
The ceremony closed with a recitation of the Doa Selamat by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Mustafa bin Haji Murat.
