A SIGNING ceremony between the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) and Muara Maritime Services Sdn Bhd (MMS), was held at the Business Centre, The Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday.
The signing of a maintenance agreement will allow for the provision of maintenance and logistics services to be outsourced to Muara Maritime Services.
MinDef prioritises the maintenance and seaworthiness of mission-essential ship functions to ensure their readiness and preparedness. By undertaking the dockyard activities of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Muara Maritime Services will be performing maintenance, repair and overhaul services to the RBN ships.
MMS is a joint venture between Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd and Lürssen-Internaval GmbH (Lürssen).
It is part and parcel of the government’s collaborative efforts with the private sector, to build a dynamic and sustainable economy for the long-term benefits of the nation through improving industry structures and sector strategies.
Signing on behalf of the MinDef was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah and on behalf of MMS was Permanent Secretary (Investment) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy and Chairman of MMS Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Managing Director of Fr Lürssen Werft Gmbh & Co KG Peter Lürssen, and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Haji Amiruddin bin Haji Mohammad Hassan witnessed the ceremony.
Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Khairul Hamed bin Haji Lampoh; Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Acting Joint Force Commander Colonel Haji Mohd Huzaimi bin Pehin Datu Harimau Padang Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Husin, and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Haji Mohd Zakaria bin Haji Sarudin were also present.
