THE Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) under the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) organised a mass recitation of Surah Yaasiin, Tahlil and a Doa Selamat yesterday, in observance of World Meteorological Day 2019.
Held at the Brunei International Airport Surau, the mass recitation was accompanied by the mass Maghrib prayers.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof attended the event. Permanent Secretary at the MTIC Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof and Deputy Permanent Secretaries Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim and Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Razak, as well as heads of departments, deputy heads of departments, senior officers and staff from the MTIC were also present.
The event is an annual activity for the BDMD and the MTIC, alongside other activities that include system launching, exhibitions and a national weather briefing on the World Meteorological Day 2019 theme ‘The Sun, The Earth and The Weather’ to be conducted on April 1 at Rimba Garden Central.
World Meteorological Day is observed annually on March 23 to commemorate the establishment of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Convention in 1950. It is also a day to commemorate the massive contributions devoted to the safety and well-being of society in general and the specific contributions in various sectors such as agriculture, aviation, construction, fisheries and tourism, as well as safety and emergency responders, by the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services around the world, under the WMO leadership.
