MORE than 160 participants from the Belait District attended a half-day Jenazah Management Workshop at the RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque in Kuala Belait yesterday.
The workshop was organised by the mosque’s Youth Group and Takmir Committee in collaboration with the Belait District branch of the Mosque Affairs Department to coincide with the school holidays.
It aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge to organise and manage a funeral.
Religious teacher at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Religious School Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainuddin delivered the briefing and demonstration on funeral management.
“Despite the workshop having been held multiple times, knowledge such as this cannot be fully comprehended just in one sitting, instead it is learnt over the course of multiple workshops,” said Head Imam at the RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Aminnuddin, adding that there is an upward trend in the number of youth who expressed interest in learning how to properly manage and conduct a funeral.
“While many would assume that the responsibility of managing a funeral falls upon Imams, religious teachers, and pengapai (individuals who handle the cleaning/preparation of the deceased before burial), in reality, this responsibility falls onto the community.
“This shows the need to disseminate information on the proper steps and practices necessary to conduct a funeral,” Imam Abdul Qayyum added.
