RECTOR of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal officiated the opening of the Entrepreneurship Day 2019 yesterday.
Dean of UNISSA’s Islamic Economics and Finance Faculty (FEKIm) Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani said the university was fortunate to have the involvement of eight participants in the Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Seeds programme, comprising single mothers who received Zakat funding from the BIBD.
“This year’s event is empowered by BIBD, which portrays the significance of an Islamic financial institution in developing the country’s entrepreneurship field, and in helping to realise the goals of Brunei Vision 2035,” he said.
“The concept of this year’s event is also different from last year, as not only does it involves sales activities, but also arranged programmes to raise self-awareness among the community on the importance of entrepreneurship.”
Among the line-up of activities are the One-Stop Start-Up stalls from selected agencies for the convenience of visitors to obtain direct information on products and services being offered by participating agencies such as BIBD 360, BIBD MSME, DARe (Darussalam Enterprise), the Halal Food Control Division, the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Yesinv Management Services Sdn Bhd and UNISSA Entrepreneurship Projects.
Apart from vendor stalls, several forum sessions are also being held, with a panel of local entrepreneurs from PAZ Tarbiyyah Islamic Enrichment Centre, Syarikat Ukhuwwah Venture, Al-Huffaz Management, Yesinv Management Services and Syarikat Eco Nadi Agrobiz.
The two-day event, which ends today, is open from 8am to 5pm at the UNISSA Campus in Jalan Gadong.
