THE Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAD) yesterday celebrated the golden jubilee of the laying of its foundation stone on June 13, 1966 with a thanksgiving ceremony held at the school’s multipurpose hall.
The guest of honour was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
The Principal of SUAMPRIPAD Ustazah Hajah Rusidah binti Haji Talip said SUAMPRIPAD was founded by Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and was among the first Arabic and religious schools to be built in Brunei.
Since its establishment, SUAMPRIPAD has received a total of 5,353 students and seen several building extensions, she said.
She said the ceremony was held to commemorate the contribution Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien in the development of Arabic and religious education in the country.
She said the ceremony also honoured the services and dedication of former officers and teachers of SUAMPRIPAD as well as aimed to foster ties among members of the school community.
She urged all members of the school community to continue to work together and provide strong commitment as well as work with sincerity and responsibility to achieve the school’s vision and mission.
The ceremony also saw the launching of the An-Nur Magazine 50 years Special Edition, which was followed by stage performances by students of SUAMPRIPAD.
The event also saw the presentation of special awards to a total of 18 former principals of SUAMPRIPAD, 42 recipients of Ja’izah At-Tamayyuzi Fil-A’Mal, the first woman to receive her degree at Al-Azhar University Al-Azhar, 12 recipients of Pingat Indah Kerja Baik and 14 recipients of the Pingat Dan Anugerah Kebangsaaan Negara Brunei Darussalam.
The guests also visited a mini exhibition and the school’s bazaar.
Also present were Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim; the Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; members of the Legislative Council, as well as permanent and deputy permanent secretaries.
