BRUNEI Darussalam and Bangladesh hope to further boost bilateral trade and commerce through the signing of different Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) in different areas of potential growth and collaboration, as Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrives here for a three-day official visit on Sunday.
In the run up to the Prime Minister’s arrival, the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry yesterday shared that during her three-day visit here, both countries will likely sign six MoUs covering areas of assistance in using science and technology in agriculture; liaison in the field of arts and culture; cooperation in sports and youth related activities; cooperation in the field of fisheries; and assistance in the field of livestock as well as cooperation in the field of fuel and energy.
According to the Press Secretary of the Bangladesh Prime Minister, the visit is at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and aims to encourage Brunei to invest in Bangladesh and to hire more trained Bangladeshis.
During the April 21-23 visit, the Bangladesh Prime Minister will attend a community reception to be hosted by expatriate Bangladeshis in Brunei and will have an audience with His Majesty at the Istana Nurul Iman on Monday, where both leaders will hold bilateral talks.
The Bangladesh Prime Minister will also join a meeting between businessmen from Bangladesh, Brunei and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam.
She will be hosted to an official banquet at the Istana Nurul Iman. She is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the new Chancery Building of the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam at Jalan Kebangsaan on Tuesday morning.
