HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office as personal representative of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, welcomed Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at the Brunei International Airport yesterday.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister and delegation arrived in Brunei for a three-day official visit.
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong as the Minister-in-Attendance, Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin were present.
High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Haji Haris bin Othman and High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Mahmud Hussain were also present.
His Royal Highness, together with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, then proceeded to a special dais to receive the salute of honour, followed by the national anthems of both countries.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister inspected the guard of honour mounted by members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Sheikh Hasina was introduced to the Cabinet Ministers; deputy ministers; the Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force; the Commander of the PR 1 4 – 4 RBAF; and ASEAN foreign envoys in Brunei Darussalam; as well as permanent secretaries at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His Royal Highness was also introduced to members of the delegation of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh were established on May 5, 1984.
Since then, the two countries have been cooperating extensively in various fields including education, trade, investment and agriculture.
