THE Ministry of Development (MoD) through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) launched its ‘No Plastic Bag Everyday’ animated video yesterday in conjunction with this year’s Earth Day celebrations.
The video was launched by the guest of honour Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar.
The celebration began with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil at the ministry’s surau followed by the commencement of the launch ceremony at the ministry’s Betabur Hall.
The ‘No Plastic Bag Everyday’ animation, which shows the dangers of plastic bags to marine animals and the natural ecosystem, is aimed at further increasing awareness on the ‘No Plastic Bag Everyday’ initiative currently implemented seven days a week at participating supermarkets, stores, shops, stalls and restaurants in the country.
The video will be shown on Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and on JASTRe’s website and social media accounts.
Acting Director of JASTRe Martinah binti Haji Tamit in her welcoming remarks said, “Earth Day is celebrated every April 22 through the organising of activities and implementation of efforts to raise awareness and inculcate a sense of responsibility in all levels of the community worldwide on the importance of preserving the environment and our Earth.
“Brunei Darussalam is no exception in celebrating Earth Day together with the global community to collectively raise awareness and strengthen our support to protect the environment for the future generations.”
Also present at the event was President of the Biodiversity and Natural History Society (BruWILD) Lin Ji Liaw, who was invited to deliver a talk centred on the Earth Day’s theme.
Following this, the guest of honour presented prizes to the winners of the ‘No Plastic Bag Everyday’ Poster competition.
Deputy Minister of Development Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the MoD Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the MoD Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Legal) at the MoD Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Mohd Yaakub, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Construction Industry and Development) at the MoD Hajah Siti Aidah binti Haji Mohammad and Acting Director General of the Public Works Department Alice Sim Sui Kau were also present.
