A SPECIAL reception was held yesterday by Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Brunei Darussalam in honour of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The reception took place at the Royal Berkshire Hall of the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, and was held in celebration of His Majesty’s 70th birthday.
His Majesty attended the reception accompanied by Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam.
Also accompanying the monarch was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar.
Welcoming Their Majesties were a group of high commissioners, ambassadors and their spouses, led by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Chhay Sokhan, the Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sokhan offered thanks to His Majesty for consenting to grant the Diplomatic Corps another opportunity to extend their birthday greetings.
“On behalf of my colleagues, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, I have a high privilege and distinct honour to express, on this occasion, our congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty and all members of the royal family.”
“Taking this opportunity, on behalf of all Diplomatic Missions, we profoundly appreciate all the hospitality, graciousness and friendship that the royal family, members of the government and the people of Brunei Darussalam continue to extend our diplomatic community,” he added.
After delivering his speech, Ambassador Sokhan presented His Majesty with a birthday gift from the Diplomatic Corps in honour of the monarch – a special plaque in the form of a silver plate.
The plate is made from pure silver, bearing birthday greetings to His Majesty, along with the names of the 29 Diplomatic Missions accredited to Brunei Darussalam.
After consenting to receive the gift, His Majesty led the royal entourage in meeting and speaking with each of the various Heads of Diplomatic Missions before leaving the venue.
