Team sports could be announced in next level of de-escalation

The resumption of local collective and team sports activities as well as sports that involve contact could be announced in the next level of de-escalation from the current phase amid the future prospects of group sports.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin hinted the future of team sports activities during a question-and-answer session at a press conference at the Al-’Afiah Hall yesterday.

Insya Allah, we will see collective sports, contact sports, team sports and competitions in the next level of de-escalation,” said the minister.

With the country moving into the second phase of the de-escalation plan or Operational Readiness Level 2 tomorrow, only sports played in a solo basis and categorised under single matches are allowed.

Meanwhile, the reopening of swimming pools will be announced in a later stage.

Only single matches are allowed especially in badminton and tennis with double matches not allowed.

The minister said that the main difference in the second phase is additional capacity which has been increased from 30 to 60 per cent while there are no changes on the current conditions.

He reiterated that sports played in a solo basis have also been extended to sports categorised under single matches.
