The first day of the blood donation drive organised by the Youth Volunteer group in Tutong District collected 53 pints of blood at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex yesterday.
The drive, in collaboration with the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Blood Donation Centre, was conducted through a booking system through the focal persons appointed in the group as part of the COVID-19 preventive measures.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad, who was among the donors, applauded the initiative by the Youth Volunteer Group and called on the public to participate in blood donation drive initiatives to help stock up the blood supply at the blood donation centre.
Head of Operations, Community Section of the Youth Volunteer Group Mohd Ashmeer said the event used a queue system and allocated 30 minutes slot limited to 10 to 12 people. “We also accept walk-in donors when the venue capacity is low.”
The blood drive in the Tutong District will continue today and the group hopes to collect 120 pints of blood during the two-day drive. A similar two-day blood donation drive will be held in the Belait District at the Belait Youth Centre on June 23-24.
A blood donation drive will also be held in the Brunei-Muara District at the Indoor Stadium in Berakas next month.
Donors in the Belait and Brunei-Muara districts can contact the district focal persons to book their slots while walk-ins will be accepted depending on slot availability.
