Most businesses in Brunei Darussalam have made adjustments to cope with the COVID-19 situation by adopting e-commerce, or education through e-learning, and shifting of jobs, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah at a press conference yesterday.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, some jobs are in less demand and certain jobs are in higher demand,” he said.
Based on the statistics from JobCentre Brunei (JCB), almost 2,400 new jobs were created early this year mainly in new areas where 1,100 have been recruited with about 1,300 vacancies left to be filled.
“I am taking this opportunity to encourage unemployed Bruneians to come forward and go for the interviews,” the minister said.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew said the Fourth Industrial Revolution was mentioned about 10 years ago, and things are changing faster compared to the previous industrial revolution, and the difference between fourth and previous industrial revolutions is technology.
“This technology will affect many other sectors. It will affect the healthcare industry, manufacturing industry, agriculture industry and the transportation industry. It will affect almost everything we do,” he added.
The minister explained that to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution we should ensure that people continue learning such as lifelong learning or through a strong foundation.
