DARREN Chai, head trainer and founder of Hybrid Movement, set foot on another first place finish in the Open Men Category at the X45 Challenge 2016, international crossfit competition organised by X45 CrossFit Kinabalu in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The annual functional fitness competition, held at Likas Stadium, has been a popular test of fitness around Southeast Asia for the third year with this year’s event seeing over 300 athletes from Malaysia, Brunei and the Phillipines taking part in the event held from August 13 – 14.
Meanwhile, Hybrid trainer Stephanie Liew, who is in her 3rd year participating in the annual event, placed third out of 13 athletes in the Open Women Category while Rachael Lee teamed up with athletes from GetFit CrossFit – Husni Damit and Shaun Lim – landing eighth place out of 23 teams in the Team Category.
Oliver Goy, a co-trainer of Hybrid, also took part the Open Men category and placed fifteenth out of 30 athletes while Del Oso, another trainer from the functional training centre, took 18th place in the same category.
“This is my first year participating in the X45 Challenge. The pool of athletes in this competition is different from my previous wins this year at Battle Royale, Borneo Panagzou and The Hopper Warrior,” said Darren Chai.
He added that it was a great experience competing against a field of strong athletes from around the region and is glad to be able to maintain his first place standing throughout the whole event.
He expressed that seeing many familiar faces who has gotten stronger over the months and years has motivated him as well as his team at Hybrid Movement to train harder for their upcoming competitions.
Their next set competition will be the Manila Throwdown Team Edition 2016 set to be held in November and Darren Chai will also be lacing up for the upcoming East Malaysia Basketball League 2016 under Beruang Blazers which is set to tip off next weekend at Kuching, Sarawak.
The basketball league will be his first semi-professional basketball appearance against top and experienced basketball players around the region.
