An opening ceremony for the 30th Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (30th EDPMMO) was held at The Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

Twenty-five officers from government ministries were selected to participate in the three-
month programme.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Civil Service, Welfare, International and Media) at the Prime Minister’s Office Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu was the guest of honour.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Esa Al-Islam bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Yunus, Acting Director-General at the Public Service Department Dr Norfarizal bin Othman and Director of ILIA Dr Jainatul Halida binti Haji Jaidin also attended the ceremony.

This year’s programme focusses on ‘Innovation’ as the theme that will be discussed via a number of modules along with activities. The theme was chosen to elevate the quality of civil service.

It is hoped to produce visionary leaders, encourage teamwork, effective communication and critical thinking.

Learning approaches will focus on dual-way interaction between facilitator and participants, case studies, blended learning, team-building experience sharing as well as learning through one–on-one leadership coaching and policy analysis paper.

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to think about their leadership style as well as coordinate and lead wisely. It is also hoped that they will be able identify opportunities to be adapted to realise Brunei Vision 2035.
