DULI Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) was adjudged the top debating team for the British Universities Brunei Association (BUBA) Awards at a reception held last night at The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
Seven Bruneian schools took part in the competition. The two runners-up are Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre and Tutong Sixth Form Centre.
On hand to present the prizes were BUBA Chairperson Kimberly Tritton and British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, David Campbell. The first prize winner won $2,000 cash prize and the BUBA trophy, while the second and third place winners won a cash prize of $1,000 and $500 respectively. All three winners were presented with plaques and certificates.
Tritton said, “The awards are aimed at celebrating the ongoing relationship between the UK and Brunei, particularly in terms of education, as well as looking forward to ever more successful collaboration for many years to come.”
Campbell congratulated all the participants, adding, “They demonstrated confidence in public speaking which will help them at university and in their future careers.”
The annual competition aims to pro-mote interest and develop understanding of British universities among students in Brunei.
