A total of 18 male and 24 female participants completed a 14-day Advance Scheme (II) Course for New Converts organised by the Tarbiyah Muallaf Unit of the Muallaf Development Division yesterday.
Guest of honour, Assistant Director of Islamic Da’wah Centre Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Kahar presented certificates and prizes to the participants during a ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Islamic Da’wah Centre in Berakas. The guest of honour said the Tarbiyah Muallaf Unit plans to have new converts who have yet to participate in the Advance I and Advance II Scheme courses to do so by implementing these courses at the centre’s units in Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts.
He called on the new converts who have not followed the course to register in their districts.
He said course participants were usually required to stay at the centre’s hostel during the course, however, due to guidelines of health advice from the Ministry of Health amid the COVID-19 pandemic, participants are allowed to go home at the end of the day.
The course serves to strengthen participants’ appreciation for daily religious practices and knowledge in becoming a better Muslim.
Participants are also given lessons on Fiqh Zakat, Dakwah, Islamic History, Fiqh Muamalat, Korban and Aqiqah and Muqaddam. A mock slaughtering activity, prayer recitations and Jawi-writing exercise are also featured in the course.
Fifty-year-old participant, Siti Nur Aisyah binti Abdullah expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to better understand the practices of Islam.
A native of Sibu, Sarawak, she has lived in Brunei for over 30 years. She also thanked the facilitators and class instructors for the lessons.
