The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Library in Tutong received a group of 13 Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Nakhoda Ragam Campus Library Club members led by Head Librarian Azaman bin Menuddin on Monday.
DBP Tutong Library Head Norhadijah binti Haji Abdul Wahab welcomed the students and shared with them the history of the Tutong library. She said the first library was established on September 1, 1975 at Jabatan Penyiaran dan Penerangan, Jalan Ence Awang, Pekan Tutong.
The new building at Kampong Sungai Basong was officially opened on July 21, 1992, by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of the monarch’s birthday.
The Tutong branch library services include a Mobile Library for Tutong District primary schools and Book Loan Services for children, teenagers and adults. Past year examination papers are also available at the library.
Material Submission Acts Unit Head Suziana binti Mos/Mostaffa enlightened the students on the 1984 revised edition of the Preservation of Books Acts 1967. She discussed materials published in Brunei that include books, reports, working papers, edition material, such as magazines as well as media material.
The students browsed through old and rare books, engaged in origami-making, and guess the dialects’ of Brunei, Tutong and Dusun ethnics along with DBP Tutong Teenage Library Club members.
