Brunei-Indonesian cultural ties get a boost

The Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a dinner for Brunei Darussalam’s cultural community last Monday evening.

The dinner at the residence of Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko saw the attendance of Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah binti Pengiran Sura Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Bey Muntassir; Head of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Haji Mohd Abdoh bin Haji Damit; DJ Daffy; Fakhrul Razi; Asian Dangdut Academy alumni; Bintang Search finalists; and local media representatives.

Dr Sujatmiko noted that the dinner was a show of gratitude to those who bring the Brunei-Indonesian culture closer, and to appreciate Brunei citizens for enjoying Indonesian music and films.

He also thanked the media and influencers who have played a role in introducing Indonesia to the conventional media and social media in Brunei.

Fakhrul Razi, representing the Brunei cultural community, expressed local musicians’ and artistes’ desire to bring Brunei music and films to the world, including Indonesia.

Dr Sujatmiko presented a plaque of appreciation to Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah, DJ Daffy and Fakhrul Razi for their efforts and collaboration in bringing the two countries closer through film, art and music.

The dinner concluded with several popular song performance by the Dangdut Academy Asia alumni from Brunei, Bintang Search finalists and Indonesian community music bands in the sultanate.

Brunei has several well-known musicians in Indonesia, including Jaz Hayat and Fakhrul Razi. Additionally, DJ Daffy and Hans Annuar are widely known by Indonesians as commentators for finals of the Dangdut Academy Asia, a music contest run by a private television station in Indonesia.
