The Foochow Association of Kuala Belait celebrated the Mid-Autumn festival on Saturday, at its building on the corner of Jalan Bunga Simpur and Jalan Bunga Raya.
The festival falls this year on October 1, which coincides with the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. The celebration was held in advance so that the association members and families could observe the event together.
Brunei Fuzhou Shiyyi Association Deputy President Dr Andy Lau Sie Chuong was welcomed on arrival by Foochow Association of Kuala Belait Chairman Tan Tei Tei. Permanent Honorary Chairman and Advisors to the Foochow Association of Kuala Belait were also present.
The association’s Secretary Ruby Hui in her opening speech said, “While the celebration was previously held to mark the thanksgiving of a successful harvest, it also serves as an opportunity to gather family members and spend time in appreciating each other’s company.”
Hand-made mooncakes and pomelo were among the traditional delights served to the attendees, who also participated in activities which included a guessing game, quizzes, riddles and a lucky draw.
