Following pump attendant’s instructions at all times is important, Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) Managing Director Mohammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil said during the launch of the third series of BSM’s Fill Safe, Feel Safe 2020 campaign yesterday.
He said several nozzle pull-out incidents were reported at retail stations recently and it was found that customers are non-compliant to the safety practices, especially making payment before refuelling is complete and added that customers are liable to the repair costs which could be over BND1,000.
The event, to promote safe practices at retail stations, was held at Hajah Dayang Badariah dan Anak-Anak Petrol Station in Jalan Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Kampong Mata-Mata and was officiated by Deputy Minister of Energy Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy and Power) at the Ministry of Energy Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra and guests were also present.
The campaign, which was launched simultaneously in all districts, is a collaborative effort between BSM and key stakeholders including the Ministry of Energy, the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, District Office and retailers.
BSM also produced new posters highlighting the safe practices at retail stations and released digital media and radio adverts from yesterday, to support the campaign called ‘Bagitau saja BSM‘ with the official social media hashtag of #GitauBSM.

The event concluded with the distribution of the Fill Safe, Feel Safe leaflets to customers.
Meanwhile, in the Belait District, the campaign took place at Roxana Shell Service Station.
Legislative Council member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi 1 Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput was the guest of honour.
He was accompanied by Village Head of STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria Haji Saidin bin Haji Ibrahim.
Welcoming them were the station’s Manager Atika binti Haji Mahadi and BSM Supply and Distribution Manager Haji Hairul Razdi bin Shahri.
Campaign posters were handed over to the guest of honour and guests while leaflets were distributed to customers.
Some of the safe practices encouraged at retail stations are ensuring that car engines are always switched off while refuelling, motorcyclists are to get off their bike during refuelling, making payment after refuelling is completed and to only use approved Jerry Cans and containers.
The campaign seeks to inform customers of the rules at retail stations and to cooperate.
This is supported by station attendants who will intervene if anything is found unsafe.
BSM wants to achieve an environment where compliance is second nature and retail stations are an incident-free space.
