Students sharpen public speaking skills

Twenty Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (BIBD ALAF) students participated in a public speaking workshop with help from the Brunei Toastmasters at the TED Talk area of the PGGMB Building recently.

The one-and-a-half-day workshop helped the students to develop self-confidence, improve communication, content structuring and their public speaking skills in preparation for their upcoming English oral and written exams.

Students were given an immersive educational experience where they learnt how to communicate with different people, appreciate the importance of public speaking, learn to properly structure their speeches and how to speak with clear purpose. They worked alongside facilitators in crafting their own speeches and presenting in front of the attendees.

BIBD Chief Marketing Officer Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar said, “This workshop is one of the activities we regularly organise for our ALAF students during the school holidays, filling their time with beneficial and productive activities. Our hope is that through this workshop, our students will be able to become confident public speakers with the skills and knowledge to address a range of different audiences.”

According to Area Director of Brunei Toastmasters Lai Ling Ling, “Every cohort is always very enthusiastic about learning and it’s such a joy to come in and be able to share what we know about communication and leadership.”
