The Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDSCouncil) will host free HIV testing for men (locals and foreigners) on October 11 afternoon.

Participants can send messages through social media to the BDAIDSCouncil social media accounts to book a slot.

The tests are conducted on a periodic basis by volunteer doctors.

Participants will also be counselled.

The screening programme aims at creating a safe space for men to get tested.

BDAIDSCouncil provides free tests as part of its efforts to encourage more men to get tested.

BDAIDSCouncil aims to hold these sessions once every six-eight weeks.

Based on the Ministry of Health statistics, over 70 people in Brunei Darussalam were infected with HIV between 2018-2019, of which 90 per cent were men.

BDAIDSCouncil recognised that HIV testing in most at-risk populations would make a big impact in the response to the HIV epidemic in Brunei.

Early diagnosis ensures those infected with HIV have early access to treatment and care so that they can lead full and normal lives and help prevent the spread of the disease.

The participant’s information will remain confidential and will not be shared without consent. If they test positive, they will be referred to a healthcare facility where they will receive access to HIV treatment and care.
