Scouts learn more about leadership

The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) held the workshop ‘Empowering Leadership PPNBD 2020’ to foster effective leadership continuity in achieving the association’s Strategic Plan of 2014-2024 yesterday.

Over 100 scout commissioners, assistant scout commissioners, scout leaders and assistant leaders attended the event, which opened with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa.

This was followed by the Scouts Loyalty Oath and welcoming remarks by the workshop director Pengiran Mahdi bin Pengiran Haji Salleh.

Four topics were presented at the workshop – ‘Constitution; POR PPNBD’ by Haji Matassim bin Duraman, ‘PPNBD Administration and Management Structure’ by Haji Ismail bin Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Setia Haji A Hapidz, ‘Management of PPNBD Finances and Accounts’ by Pengiran Haji Alit bin Pengiran Haji Damit and ‘Uniforms and Decorations in POR PPNBD” by Mohamad Arif bin Abdul Hadi.

The participants learnt about the PPNBD’s Constitution Policy, Organisation and Procedure (POR), to motivate and strengthen leadership regarding their roles and responsibilities.

The workshop was also a follow-up action to the ‘Seminar Resolutions towards 100 Years of Scouting in Negara Brunei Darussalam’, for Resolutions 1 to 9.

Scouts Chief Commissioner Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali officially launched the workshop, which was closed by PPNBD President Haji Metusin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba.

The closing ceremony commenced with remarks from Pengiran Mahdi and a presentation of the workshop’s resolution, which was handed over to the Scouts Chief Commissioner by the President of PPNBD.

Among the matters noted in the workshop’s resolution were refining PPNBD’s organisational structure in alignment with the Constitution and POR through reorganisation in terms of strategic, management and operational levels; defining roles and responsibilities; and an update of the Hierarchy Charter.

Other notes included establishing the required set of competencies according to the leadership level, upgrading the competency of leaders through continuous training courses and reviewing the system and criteria on the awarding of medals and online registration system.

The workshop ended with a presentation of certificates by the PPNBD President.
