The Health Promotion Centre (HPC), Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PKWE) Belait District organised a talk on eye care at the Kampong Pandan Library yesterday, to educate senior citizens on the importance of maintaining good eyesight.
Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Eye Specialist Pengiran Dr Noor Affizan binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman delivered the talk to 50 PKWE Belait members and their families.
She advised those above 40 years to go for an eye check-up at least once a year, while those with diabetes should have their eyes checked at least twice a year, or as advised by their doctor.
Individuals with a family history of blindness or any eye problems are also encouraged to visit the eye specialist.
The talk concluded with a question and answer session.
The talk, held as part of HPC’s Elderly Health Programme, had been put on hold since the COVID-19 outbreak in Brunei. However, HPC revived and expand the programme to further engage the public, especially senior citizens. Future programmes will include topics on nutrients, first aid, dementia as well as physical/outdoor activities.
