A roadshow carrying the theme ‘Together In Achieving Maritime Security’ organised by the Task Force for Security of Offshore Installation in collaboration with Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) was held at the Songket Ballroom, The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.
The roadshow’s objective is to increase public awareness and knowledge on maritime security issues, especially on the safety of fishermen while at sea, while informing the public on the importance of safeguarding the offshore oil platforms, as well as regulations and laws related to the maritime security domain.
The roadshow also promoted interaction and communication between the security and enforcement agencies with private stakeholders, local fishermen as well as boat operators.
Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat in his capacity as the Chairman of the Maritime Security Working Committee (MSWC) was the guest of honour.
Also present were members of the MSWC and Task Force, government officials, as well as full time and part-time local fishermen.
The event also included presentation sessions from representatives of BSP, Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam, Fisheries Department and Marine Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force.
