The Excellent Student Award for Category A was given to Siti Hakeemah Sabrina during a ceremony that celebrated high-achievers at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSSHB) Secondary School yesterday.

Siti Hakeemah, who obtained 4A* and 4A’s in the BC-GCE ‘O’ Levels in November 2019, attributed her achievement to the support from her parents and teachers ahead of the exams. She said aside from revision a month prior to examinations, she often referred to her teachers on topics she did not fully grasp.

Siti Hakeemah hopes to pursue her studies in the field of science abroad.

YSHHB Secondary School Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Fliti was the guest of honour, who presented prizes and certificates to the students.

YSHHB Secondary School Principal Chong Li Chen said great improvement was made for the BC-GCE ‘O’ Level results compared to 2018.

“Thirty-six of the 48 students, or 75 per cent, achieved five ‘O’ Levels compared to 59.68 per cent in 2018.

“It is an improvement of 15 per cent which is an outstanding achievement and a record for our school.

“One hundred per cent of our fast track or express students achieved at least six to nine credits with A*s in a number of subjects.

“The ‘O’ Level November 2019 results improved both quantitatively and qualitatively. English, Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK), Physics and Biology recorded up to 33.33 per cent of students achieving grade A; whereas Malay Language and Geography both recorded the highest achievement of Grade A since 2012.

“Subjects that recorded the best result since 2012 were English (87.5 per cent). Geography (78.13 per cent); Mathematics D (72.92 per cent), Combined Science (50 per cent) and Commerce (50 per cent),” she said.

In category B, two students received awards for achieving 5A’s; seven students in Category C for 3A’s while Category D saw 10 students receive awards for 1A’s and Category E saw 10 students who obtained 7O’s and six students attaining 5O’s in Category F.
