With the purpose of developing and preserving Islamic arts especially in calligraphy, the Centre for Islamic Arts Studies and Calligraphy under the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (PPKKI-YSHHB) officially opened its door to the public in March.
The centre serves as a learning institution while offering services for the development of knowledge, capabilities and skills in Islamic arts towards upholding Jawi writing and Islamic calligraphy.
In November, PPKKI-YSHHB received visits from primary and secondary school students including students from Birau Primary School, Berakas Garrison Primary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Masna Religious School, Pengkalan Batu Religious School, YSHHB Secondary School, Ma’had Islam Brunei and the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School.
During the visit, students took a closer look at calligraphic arts at the Lauhah Al-Islamiah, Al-Aswad and At-Tasmeem galleries.
The visits also served the purpose of preserving Islamic art to encourage youth to appreciate and master skills in Mushaf arts, calligraphy and decorative arts.
PPKKI-YSHHB will continue to conduct activities related to Islamic arts, focussing on calligraphy.
