SMS Brunei Prihatin launched

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof in his capacity as Chairman of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) Board of Trustees launched the SMS Brunei Prihatin Project for DANA 2020-2021 yesterday.

The SMS Brunei Prihatin for DANA 2020-2021 will run for six months starting yesterday and ends on May 31, 2021. Three telecommunication companies – DST, Progresif Sdn Bhd and Imagine Sdn Bhd – were appointed to receive donations from their subscribers where they can contribute by keying in DANA100 for BND100, DANA50 for BND50, DANA20 for BND20, DANA15 for BND15, DANA10 for BND10, DANA5 for BND5 or DANA1 for BND1.

To raise awareness, promotional videos will be broadcast on Radio Television Brunei (RTB) as well as The Mall Cineplex and Times Cineplex.

The launching ceremony at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex also saw the handing over of DANA contributions in the form of coupons for orphans to purchase stationery and other school essentials for the 2021 academic year.

The coupons will be distributed to 3,697 orphans registered under DANA Secretariat nationwide. Each orphan will receive a BND200 coupon.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud in his capacity as member of the Board of Directors of Yayasan, presented coupons to Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim who also represented the Tutong District Officer; Belait District Officer’s representative Mohammad Fadzil bin Md Yanie; and Acting Temburong District Officer’s representative Haji Mohammad Azmi bin Haji Suhaili.

The coupons will be distributed to orphans through village heads.

The coupons can be used at 38 bookstores across the districts and at schools under the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs. Out of the bookstores, 24 companies will channel five per cent from the proceeds for DANA.

Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak in her capacity as Acting Chief Executive Officer of DANA, government officers, Yayasan senior officers, and telco senior officers were also present at the ceremony.
