Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri and Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri were crowned Qari and Qariah champions in the finals of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth 2020 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) DiGadong Hall on Thursday.
The Qari and Qariah champions received a trophy, BND2,000 cash prize and certificate, while second place winners received a trophy, BND1,500 cash prize and certificate.
Third place winners received a trophy, BND1,000 cash prize and certificate, while others were given consolation prizes of a trophy, BND500 cash prize and certificate.
In the Qari category, Afiq Haririe bin Haji Mat Daud came in second place while Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim claimed third spot.
In the Qariah category, Najla Sabreena binti Haji Abdul Rajid and Dayangku Nurul Sakinah Adawiyah binti Pengiran Ainolazahar came in second and third places.

A total of 77 youth participated in the competition. Eight participants – five Qaris and three Qariahs – were selected for the final round.
The competition, organised by the MCYS since the 1980s, has successfully produced a number of quality Qaris and Qariahs.
It has been serving as a platform for Qari and Qariah youth in the country to showcase their skills, especially in the field of Al-Quran recitation in terms of Tarannum.
It also prepares them to represent Brunei Darussalam in the Southeast Asia Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition, organised by the MCYS.
