The Ministry of Health (MoH) through the Health Promotion Centre held for the first time a consultation session focussing on the mental health of the people of Brunei, as it works to establish a National Mental Health Action Plan 2021-2025.

The session also aimed to identify and set an agreed time to achieve targets based on general needs assessment.

Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH Dr Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif was the guest of honour.

Seventy government and non-government organisation representatives discussed issues related to strengthening effectiveness in leading and managing mental health, to prepare comprehensive services for mental and social issues, be united and responsive in the community environment, implementation of mental health promotional strategies and prevention of mental disorders, as well as strengthening the information system for mental health.

The MoH hoped all stakeholders will cooperate in addressing the mental health issue. It is a matter that should not be shouldered by the government alone; a whole-of- nation approach must be employed as mental health is the responsibility of all.
