Services under the Mail Processing Centre (MPC) of the Postal Services Department came under the spotlight when members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) paid a working visit to the facility yesterday.
During the visit, LegCo members were briefed on the quarterly statistics for 2020 on the number of local and international mails processed.
The delegation was also briefed on the Processing and Quarantine Area for incoming mails.
Since the onset of COVID-19 in March, the Postal Services Department has taken the initiative to further tighten the processing of mail bags arriving in Brunei Darussalam.
LegCo members also toured the newly constructed container room built to process and quarantine as well as fogging arriving mail bags.
The delegation also took a closer look at the functions of RFID Gate (GMS Letter Performance) installed in 2019. The system monitors and measures the performance of mail delivery processed at the centre.
At the X-Ray Area (PPE), the delegation observed arriving parcels in the Mail Processing Centre go through two main processes. The parcels being x-rayed and labelled by personnel of Royal Customs and Excise Department; and being sorted and categorised under small parcel, letter or registered mail.
Before concluding the visit, LegCo members viewed the eKadaiBrunei SME Logistics Partner and EMS Poslaju exhibition. The initiative is co-organised with eKadaiBrunei Service provides Poslaju (domestic) and EMS SpeedPost (international) services. eKadaiBrunei is an online directory that connects SMEs/eCommerce Marketplace to facilitate the public in making purchases online.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof as well as Acting CEO of AITI and senior officials from the MTIC were also present.
