With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, First Admiral Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Seruji took over the helm of command from First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili @ Suhaily in a Change of Command ceremony held yesterday at Bravo Parade Square, Muara Naval Base.
Upon arrival at the Bravo Parade Square, the outgoing Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Commander received the honorary salute and inspected the guard of honour, comprising RBN personnel. The march parade was commanded by Lieutenant Commander Amiel Azim bin Haji Afflon.
The ceremony continued with a farewell speech by First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman, the 16th RBN Commander, expressing his appreciation to all RBN personnel for their significant achievements, efforts and spirit in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.
He also advised all personnel to remember the core values of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), by putting more emphasis on faith and remembrance of Allah the Almighty in their daily working lives, as well as esprit de corps, since success can only be achieved through teamwork.
A signing ceremony was then held to mark the official handover of the RBN Commander’s duties.
This was followed by a Doa Selamat read by Officer at the RBAF Religious Department (JAMA’AT) Captain Mohammad Farid bin Mohammad Raffi.
The ceremony continued with the new RBN Commander receiving the honorary salute, marking the new duty placement, prior to inspecting the guard of honour.
First Admiral Spry then delivered his inaugural speech as the 17th RBN Commander.
