Enforcement officers during a joint operation confiscated more dubious chicken wings.
Enforcement officers of Halal Food Control Division, Syariah Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs along with Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) personnel detained a 19-year-old local selling chicken wings at a car park in Kampong Bebatik Kilanas.
Some 40.9 kilogrammes of chicken wings were seized.
The operation was conducted following Halal Food Control Division personnel found the teen selling dubious chicken wings to customers through social media.
The case was investigated under Section 9, Halal Meat Act, Chapter 183 of selling imported meat without a Halal import permit and sourced from an abattoir abroad not recognised by the Brunei Islamic Religious Counci, which is an offence under Customs Order 2006.
The confiscated items were taken to the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department. The case is being investigated by the RCED.
The Halal Food Control Division urged the public to cooperate and share information on meat smuggling activities through the Halal Food Control Division hotline at 7166222 or the division’s offices in each district. The public is also reminded that every Halal meat entering the country should have a valid Halal import permit.
The Halal Food Control Division and other enforcement agencies will conduct patrols and operations to ensure the country’s laws and regulations are met.
