President re-elected, awards presented at AGM

The Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD) retained Haji Mahadi bin Haji Md Tahir as its president for the 2021/2022 session during its 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kiulap yesterday.

Advisors to PABD, Judge at the Syar’ie Court Haji Johar bin Haji Mohammad and Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, were present.

The AGM began with an award presentation by PABD honorary advisors to two international awards recipients.

Pengiran Mohammad Rezal bin Pengiran Haji Osman, who proposed the winning names Gumala (star) and Mastika (exoplanet) as part of the national campaign organised in Brunei for the International Astronomical Union’s 100th anniversary (IAU100) NameExoWorlds Project

in 2019 received the Certificate of Achievement by the International Astronomical Union (IAU)

Making Space for All (MASA) proposal by PABD for the Telescopes for All by the IAU in June 2020 was awarded to Nur Bazilah binti Zainal.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to seven PABD members for their contributions and 11 PABD Executive Committee members for their services.

The AGM also saw the election of Vice President Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop, Secretary General Hazarry bin Haji Ali Ahmad; Deputy Secretary I Pengiran Shahdani bin Pengiran Anom, Deputy Secretary II Dr Haji Md Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Treasurer General Shaifulbahri bin Haji Ahmad and five other ordinary executives.
