Top-tiered students were acknowledged at the second session of the 2019 Outstanding Achievers’ Awards organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Department of Schools, the Department of Examinations, the Private Education Section and the Special Education Unit in collaboration with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) yesterday.
Minister of Education cum guest of honour Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman and Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh attended the ceremony to celebrate the 130 award recipients from primary and secondary schools; colleges, sixth form centres and private education institutions.
The categories awarded were for Cambridge Outstanding Achievers’ Awards ‘O’ Level; Excellence in BC-GCE ‘O’ Level; Excellence in BC-GCE ‘O’ Level/IGCSE for Candidates with Special Needs; Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate; Excellence in Primary School Assessment (PSR); and Excellence in PSR for Candidates with Special Needs Cambridge Outstanding Achievers’ Award recipients received trophies, certificates and prizes from the CAIE and prizes from sponsoring companies.
Meanwhile, students awarded Excellences in BC-GCE ‘O’ Level/IGCSE Ordinary Level and Special Needs ‘O’, Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate and PSR received trophies, certificates, cash prizes and prizes from sponsoring companies.
The event was highlighted by a welcoming speech from co-chairperson cum Acting Director-General of Education/Acting Director of Schools Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli, followed by a speech by a CAIE representative in a video recording. The ceremony continued with the minister handing out the awards.
Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, directors and senior officers, school leaders and parents attended the event.
