The Australian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam is committed to supporting the Sultanate’s creative industry, said Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Tiffany Anne McDonald at the launch of a mural at a wall of a Fitness Zone building in Kiulap yesterday.
Local celebrity Wu Chun also participated in the event.
Sketch One was behind the mural project, which took 10 days and around 100 hours to complete.
McDonald also congratulated Wu Chun for organising creative events “which are an important aspect for the local community”.
Quoting famous artist Henri Matisse who said “creativity takes courage”, the envoy said Wu Chun demonstrates courage to support the local creative industry by providing a platform here.
“The mural we see today has a lion which is a symbol of courage,” the ambassador noted.
Wu Chun, meanwhile, said, “I want to start the new year with positive energy and inspiration. I want the passers-by to be inspired and motivated by the mural.
“I love murals and I want to inspire the community especially after a challenging 2020.
Everything happened so fast. I want the public to slow down. The art of slow living involves appreciating our surroundings and their beauty, and to ignite and inspire hope, love and wellness.”
Joining in to add finishing touches to the mural was Wu Chun’s daughter Nei Nei.
