The Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation is the gold standard for any healthcare provider when it comes to maintaining a high level of patient care and safety.
The management ensures that the procedures, policies and resources are in place to ensure healthcare worker’s safety in all areas of the organisation.
This was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar in his capacity as Chairman and Executive Director of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC).
He explained that the JCI accreditation process is designed to create a culture of safety and quality and provides assurance that the standards, training and processes used to survey the performance of healthcare organisations meet the highest international benchmark.
JPMC earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for the 3rd time, first for any healthcare provider in the country.
The accreditation is a symbol of quality that reflects JPMC’s commitment to constantly improve the quality of patient care and enhancing patient safety.

The Joint Commission based in the Chicago suburb of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois in the United States (US) is an independent non-profit group and one of the most prestigious in the world involved in accrediting and certifying hospitals for the quality of services.
In 2014, JPMC became the first hospital in Brunei Darussalam to receive the JCI accreditation and was re-accredited for the second time in 2017.
JPMC proved to be on an upward trajectory when it was awarded its 3rd JCI award by the American-based body recently for demonstrating continuous compliance with its internationally recognised criteria.
In line with one of the strategic priorities – to provide quality service delivery – patient safety is always at the core of all the services provided by JPMC.
The accreditation strengthens and improves the safety culture and quality of patient care.
JPMC Medical Director Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer said, “Having a gold seal does not mean we are flawless. It just means we are consistently looking for ways to close the gaps and proactively improving ourselves.
“The JCI provides numerous valuable resources to help JPMC sustain our continued compliance with quality and patient safety standards.”
The five-day virtual survey was conducted by two international health surveyors, led by Diane Sanders and Ken Waxman from the US.
Every survey is aimed at ensuring the hospital complies with the patient safety goals, upholding its mission to continuously improve healthcare for the public and providing safe and effective are of the highest quality and value.
