AMBD was established on January 1, 2011 as a statutory body as stipulated in the AMBD Order 2010. AMBD acts as the central bank of Brunei Darussalam with responsibilities including the conduct of monetary policy, the issuance of the Brunei currency, and regulating and supervising banks and other financial institutions.
Since its establishment, major shifts have been seen in the financial and economic landscapes in Brunei and globally.
However, AMBD has remained committed to its mandates including the preservation of financial and price stability, ensuring efficient payment systems, and fostering a sound and progressive financial services sector.
Many achievements have been realised especially in strengthening regulations on the financial sector in line with international best practices, building key financial infrastructures to support the growth of the financial industry, and caring for and taking into account of the needs of financial consumers.
