OVER 500 participants took part in the Royal Birthday Run 2016 that was held in Taman Persiaran in Kuala Belait yesterday. The run was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home Affairs in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 70th birthday celebration.
Attending as guest of honour was the Minister of Development, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah who also participated in the fun run and also presented the prize to the winners.
Apart from the effort to further enliven His Majesty’s birthday celebration, the Royal Birthday Run 2016 is also held to encourage the community to practise a healthy lifestyle, and also to foster unity among the community.
The run consisted of three categories, for male and female – 10km category for 18 years old and above; 5km category for 17 years old and below, and 3km fun run category.
First place winners for the 18 years and above category received $500 cash prize along with medals and certificates, meanwhile the winners for the 17 years old and below category received $300 cash prize along with medals and certificates and also special award of a $100 cash prize was given to the 70th place participant, with medals and certificates.
For the 3km fun run category, the route started from Taman Persiaran Jalan Sungai to Jalan Pretty and then back to Taman Persiaran Jalan Sungai. The 5km category for 17 years old and above route started from Jalan Sungai to Jalan Pretty and back to Jalan Sungai. Meanwhile, for the 10km category for 18 years old and above, the route began from Jalan Tengah to Jalan Sungai.
