Golden Corporation Sdn Bhd (Golden), an established foreign direct investment (FDI) company in Brunei Darussalam, is looking at producing no less than 5,000 tonnes of shrimps this year, directly contributing to the Sultanate’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The company started in 2002 with a hatchery for shrimp and fish fry – the result of a collaboration with the Brunei government – before expanding into developing shrimp farms, fishmeal and feed mill plants. It established the first integrated seafood processing plant in Brunei Darussalam in 2012.

Golden employs over 200 locals and fully supports the i-Ready programme, a government initiative.

The employees are either local i-Ready students and/or local graduates promoted through the ranks, holding key position in various departments of the company. Golden also accepts local/international internship students.

Golden aspires to increase collaboration with local shrimps farmers via sharing of knowledge and technical know-how, which includes supplying of shrimps fries and feeds, buying of shrimps and providing technical support.

Golden owns three shrimp farms totalling 250 hectares in the Tutong District, and three processing plants in both the Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts. Its 200 hectares shrimp farm at Penyatang in Tutong is nearing completion, and is the largest in the Sultanate. Once Phase 2 is ready sometime next year, Golden will have a further 259 hectares of shrimp farm to take its annual production output to even greater heights.
