Two thousand heads of ready-to-slaughter sheep from Australia arrived in the Sultanate to fill the void in supply brought on by the COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The first batch of lamb arrived at midnight yesterday and will be available for distributors, restaurants and supermarkets from tomorrow. Another batch is scheduled to arrive during the course of a week.
The live cattle will be housed at PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd (PDS) sheep yards and slaughtered at PDS’ certified slaughterhouse at Batang Mitus.
As a leading accredited Halal and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified facility, PDS’ core business activities include the importation of livestock from Australia, and the production of fresh and chilled beef and processed products.
PDS continues to support the national food security initiative by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, with collaboration from the Ministry of Primary Resource and Tourism. Last year, it imported ready-to-slaughter cattle from Australia and live sheep from Indonesia in December 2020.
The company will continue to import ready-to-slaughter sheep for the production of fresh and chilled lamb and mutton meat.
PDS is a joint venture company under the purview of Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd.
