Attorney General Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa attended the High-Level Meeting of the Commonwealth Law Ministers, along with representatives from 30 member countries of the Commonwealth on Thursday.
The agenda was to discuss the key legal challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in the Commonwealth, including to ensure equal access to justice for all, upholding the rule of law in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and the legal barriers to equitable access to essential medicines, including vaccines and equipment.
The meeting was chaired by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Justice Mohamed Ali Sabry.
Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland QC was also present.
The Commonwealth Law Ministers expressed their sadness at the number of lives lost to COVID-19 in the Commonwealth family and across the world.
They also praised the outstanding work of health workers, judges, prosecutors, lawyers and justice system workers in facing increased workloads and adapting to the unprecedented situation to ensure people’s access to justice during the pandemic.
