An outreach from the National Youth Strategy and Policy (DBNS) Youth Advisory Group (YAG) to raise awareness and receive feedback on national youth programmes and initiatives took place last Saturday in the Belait District.
The outreach programme, which is part of an initative by DBNS to further engage youth in national development, saw its largest turnout thus far with 270 participants from various institutes in the district.
This included students from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Bolkiah Campus, IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus and the Politeknik Brunei (PB) School of Science and Engineering Lumut Campus.
The programme was focussed on youth between 15 and 35 to help further increase awareness on youth programmes and initiatives. It also sought their viewpoints on national developments and how to improve them.
One activity held during the programme was a breakout session where attending youth were divided into focus groups to discuss key points of the DBNS as well as the various challenges associated with them. They were challenged to brainstorm and put forward solutions to them.
Another activity was to connect youth with DBNS strategic partners, including the Sekretariat Tetap Wawasan Brunei 2035, the Community Development Department (JAPEM), the Youth Development Centre (PPB), the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, Authoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, Green Depot, DARE (Darussalam Enterprises), Young Professionals Network Brunei and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
The various institutions were on hand to answer questions and provide information material
to the attendees.
DBNS YAG was established with members of different backgrounds, age, occupations, and socio-economic status within one year to act as a platform for the local youth and the government in promoting youth development in the country.
