A driver and passenger had a lucky escape, when the hatchback vehicle they were travelling in, burst into flames at KM22 of the Lumut-Seria Bypass.

Nine personnel from the Seria Fire Station, led by Assistant Station Officer Musa bin Aman, responded to a report of a car fire at 4.13pm, on Thursday, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) stated.

The firefighters found the female driver and her male passenger exited the vehicle safely, with no injuries.

Using two jet hoses, the firefighters extinguished the blaze within 26 minutes.

Meanwhile, the FRD advised car owners to inspect their vehicle engines for leaks before driving, since leaked fluids can easily become flammable or combustible.

Any modifications of the engine electrical system and accessories, as well as wiring, must be performed by skilled and accredited mechanics.

Road users are also urged to comply with traffic regulations, in addition to belting up while driving and exercising caution during bad weather conditions.

Call 995 for fire-related emergencies, and provide accurate details of the incident.
