Japan, the host of the Olympics this year, will ensure that all measures are in place to ensure the safety of athletes participating in the event, said Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Eiji Yamamoto.
The ambassador said this when he paid a courtesy call on Legislative Council (LegCo) Speaker, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib at the LegCo Building yesterday. The ambassador while expressing admiration for COVID-19 control in the country, said with the firm stand and measures taken, Brunei Darussalam has been able to control the COVID-19 spread.
The Legco Speaker also hoped that the COVID-19 outbreak will be brought under control in Japan with the Olympics expected to be held in the country this year.
Yamamoto said as the Olympics games organiser, Japan is very proud and committed to hosting the sporting event.
Both parties also touched on the progress of the LegCo meeting which will take place soon to discuss the main issue, – the government budget. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman also shared that apart from the LegCo meeting, LegCo members are also actively holding talks with ministries and government departments as well as visits to obtain more details on strategic matters, government affairs policies and the implementation of ongoing or planned projects.
“This kind of interaction is very helpful and portrays the unity of the LegCo members to build the nation with cooperation from the ministries,” he said.
Both parties also expressed their appreciation for the long-standing ties and hoped that parliamentary relations could also continue to grow and strengthen through the exchange of visits between the two parties after the COVID-19 outbreak is under control.
Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk First to the LegCo Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar was also present.
